Adopting from us

Thank you for considering one of our extra-special kitties.

The adoption process

Adopting from us is pretty straightforward.

First, send us a message (Facebook is usually quickest) with a quick summary of what you’re after — for instance, are you looking for an indoor or outdoor cat? Any preferences in terms of age and temperament? And let us know whether you have any children and other pets.

We’ll reply with details (and photos!) of the available kitties that might suit you. We’re only a small shelter so it might take a bit of time to get back to you, feel free to prod after a few days if you haven’t heard from us.

Let us know which cat(s) you’re interested in, and we can set up a meeting. Sometimes we can arrange for you to meet multiple cats in one visit, but not always, because some of them are at Moggy Manor and some in foster homes.

We do our home checks by video. If we do the check before your cat visit, you can take the kitty home with you the same day — either to adopt, or as a foster-to-adopt arrangement. There’s more info about the home check here, but in short, please don’t worry — we’re basically making sure you don’t reside in a live volcano. Dormant volcanos fine.

Once you’ve passed your home check and chosen a cat (or, let’s be real, the cat’s chosen you), there’s the adoption agreement to sign (we usually do this electronically but let us know if that poses any technical problems). We also ask for an adoption donation to help us continue our work — the suggested amount is £100 for one cat, or £150 for two. This is a lot less than we usually spend on each cat to get them healthy and ready to be homed, and it’s also a lot less than it’d cost you to neuter, microchip, vaccinate and treat the cat at your own vet.

Lastly, we transfer the microchip over to you and they’re officially yours. Hooray!

Please spam us with updates, we love seeing our kitties living their best lives, and it makes a nice change from the 50,000 “I want a kitten” / “can you take my 18 flea-bitten, unfixed cats by tonight” messages we get all the time.

You can find currently available Moggies here on the website, however the mix of cats in the shelter changes frequently and since it’s just me, I just can’t always keep the website totally up-to-date. For the latest news about the cats and who’s available for adoption, check Facebook or send me a message!
